Prior to joining Almich & Associates, James was employed by Arthur Andersen, initially in the audit department, then transferring to the tax department, where he held the position of Senior Tax Manager. During his 11 years with Arthur Andersen, James worked with service-oriented companies, including educational institutions and banks, as well as many other companies in a variety of industries.

James joined Almich & Associates in 2001 as the partner in charge of tax. James has supervised the growth of the tax department to serve the needs of a variety of client types and businesses. James has served many of his clients since his days with Arthur Andersen. James is experienced in the planning for and preparation of income taxes for closely-held businesses of all types – corporations (both “C” and “S”), partnerships and limited liability companies, and sole proprietorships – and their owners, as well as individuals and tax-exempt organizations. James has also been involved in over 250 engagements with postsecondary educational organizations. As a result, James has significant expertise in tax structuring, mergers and acquisitions, and the tax impact of federal and state regulations on educational entities.

James graduated from California State University at Long Beach in 1989 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in accounting and earned a Master’s degree in taxation from Golden Gate University. James is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants.

When not working with clients, James enjoys spending time with his family, usually outdoors running, camping or hiking.
